British Waterways London
British Waterways London has made significant progress on the regeneration of one of London's most impressive canal locations. Following adoption of the Masterplan the first phases of development around the refurbished basin are complete and almost fully occupied. With the completion of the first phase of Sheldon Square the basin’s regeneration provides an attractive focus for over 900 waterside apartments, 1.1 million sq ft of prime office accommodation for 30 companies new to the area including, M&S and Orange and a number of shops, restaurants and bars. The opening of this waterside location brings together over 7,000 employees and 2,000 new residents and provides a new focus for use by local communities and visitors for the first time in its 200 year history. Future phases of the development are under consideration by Westminster City Council and will add greater vibrancy to the area by creating further homes and places of work. Once complete Paddington Basin will once again be a major boating destination for London with links to Camden, King's Cross, Islington, Limehouse, Stratford and Docklands. A new mix of shops, cafes, restaurants, visiting narrowboats, community boats, business barges, water taxis, trip boats and floating galleries will bring life to this historic waterspace. JENA, the Paddington information boat managed by British Waterways London, is moored outside Subway Sandwich Bar at PaddingtonCentral. The boat is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4.30pm and provides local and waterway information to boaters and the general public.
